Going to college when you’re 18 is hard enough, but going back after your 30th birthday can be an even more daunting task. Getting back into the groove of being a student is not easy, but there are a lot of ways to make it work. In this entry, I’ll address a very common problem among adult students: balance.
With family, work, and now school, there’s a lot on your plate. So, what’s the best solution? Manage your time effectively and follow through with your plans. As cliché as it sounds, proper time management is necessary for success. Do not neglect the process; be sure to invest a good amount of time in scheduling the week out. Prioritize what’s important beforehand so you can focus on following the plan.
It’s crucial to stick to your plan, but be ready to adapt to unexpected challenges. Did your son break his leg on the night before your midterm? Did you get in a car accident on your way to class? You will have to prepare for many unforeseen situations and think on your feet. Whether that means studying in the emergency room or discussing the problem with your professor, be prepared to come up with solutions under pressure.
Between sick kids, traffic accidents, or other circumstances, you can utilize phone apps to help better manage your time. Nowadays, your smart phone can be your own personal assistant. Take advantage of apps designed to help you plan and manage your time. While the phone’s built-in calendar might be enough for some, here are some additional free apps that may help you out:
